Plant-parasitic nematodes are recognized as one of the greatest threats to crops throughout the world. Nematodes alone or in combination with other soil microorganisms have been found to attack almost every part of the plant including roots, stems, leaves, fruits and seeds. 

The purpose of this educational material is to give some useful information about the major plant parasitic nematodes of economic importance, the importance of nematode identifications to agriculture, the nematode problems and diseases on major crops, the nematode disease symptoms and diagnosis, the examination and collection of soil and plant material, and the extraction of nematodes from soil and the kind of samples they should be receiving or sending for identification purposes
