Course Description

Reproduction of Farm Animals II introduces the principles that govern reproductive performance and lactation in farm animals. The course examines the key reproductive parameters used to evaluate herd performance, the factors affecting fertility, and the importance of reproductive recording systems in livestock management. It also explores the influence of seasonality, photoperiod, and nutrition on reproductive efficiency.

The second part of the course focuses on the mammary gland, covering its anatomy, the physiology of milk secretion and ejection, and the biological and management factors that influence milk production throughout lactation.

By the end of the course, students should be able to interpret reproductive and lactation data, explain the physiological mechanisms underlying reproduction and milk production, and apply these concepts to improve reproductive efficiency and productivity in farm animal systems.
